PAT/PPS Contract Negotiations
As you’ve heard previously, our teachers have been working without a contract for 2 years! The Portland Association of Teachers (PAT) is working to negotiate a new contract and need our help as parents! If they are unable to sign a contract soon, our teachers may have to strike — as early as February next year.
What can you do?
Parents should contact Superintendent Guadalupe Guerrero, email@example.com
, and the following school board members to express our concern that PPS has not yet signed a contract with PAT and show our support for our teachers:
What should you say?
Each week we will list a different comment to send to the Superintendent and school board members. This week, we encourage you to email the following. Please feel free to respectfully personalize it however you would like.
Dear Superintendent Guerrero and Board Members Brim-Edwards, Kohnstamm, and Moore:
I am a parent at Grout Elementary school. I support our students’ teachers and urge you to settle a fair contract with them. Among the points of contention is that All students deserve individual attention. The best way to ensure teachers are able to provide a high quality education to all students is to cap the number of students in each class. PAT has proposed contract language that would help ensure the District provides smaller class sizes.
Thank you for your attention to my concern. I look forward to a speedy resolution to this situation for the sake of our teachers, our students, and our district.
