This week at Grout: Dec.11-15th

Can you believe this is the last week of school before break? Here’s your last round up of the year:

Tuesday, Dec. 12 – Pizzacato Dough for Dollars

The Westmoreland Pizzacato will be donating 20% of the proceeds from this day, all day long. If you placed a pre-order, your order will be available to pick up when you pick your student(s) up.

Thursday, Dec. 14 – PTA Presents at Kateri Park: DHS and a Conversation about Child Welfare, 6:30pm

This will not be a typical PTA General Meeting. We have representatives coming from DHS to present on what DHS (Department of Human Services) does, what it means when they are called, who can call, and what happens after they are called. All are welcome. We will have interpreters, food and childcare. The address for Kateri Park is 3640 SE 28th Avenue.

Friday, Dec. 15 – Grout T Shirt Day, Coffee with Principal Annie, Last Day of the Spare Change Challenge (bring in your December dollars!)

Have your kids wear their Grout T-shirts, and then come enjoy a cup of coffee and pastries with Principal Annie in the Cafeteria at 8:15am. It’s a chance to ask Annie questions or to learn about what is happening around Grout.

We’ve heard people are running out of spare change for the challenge, but guess what? You can bring in change, dollars or checks (made payable to Grout PTA) for our last collection for the Spare Change Challenge. (You were worried about that, weren’t you?) As of this writing, the top three classrooms are 1) Teacher Wendy, 2) Ms. Jamie Williams, and 3)Ms. Hawksford. BUT there are two more classrooms within six dollars of third place! And a few more within about $20! Remember the class for each grade level will win a prize, with the overall winner winning an extra-special prize.

Dec. 18Jan. 1 – NO SCHOOL

Enjoy your break!

Thursday, Jan. 4 – PTA Clothing Closet

See below for more information about this special volunteering opportunity.

Thursday, Jan. 4 – Special AFTERNOON PTA meeting in the auditorium, 2:30pm

Mr. Frankunas will be presenting about bullying and the internet. If you have anything specific you would like addressed, you can email me or Mr. Frankunas, or we will be putting out a suggestion box where you can drop questions for Mr. Frankunas to answer. We will also be discussing the auction and there will be a short presentation about measure 101. Childcare will be provided by SUN School.

We are looking for volunteers for our assigned time to help out at the PTA Clothing Closet on Thursday, January 4th, which is our first week back from break.  Here is information about what volunteers do. Volunteers are needed from 9:30-1:30, though you can just do a shift if necessary. The Clothing Center is located at the Marshall Campus, off of Powell and 92nd. We are supposed to send 6-8 volunteers. Please let me know if you are interested in volunteering. I did it last year and really enjoyed helping out.

A big thank you to everyone that has donated to our playground fund so far this year!

  • We have collected $40,000 of our $60,000 goal!

As 2017 draws to a close, we will be working on getting our tax receipts to everyone that has donated. If you donated $100 or more (even if it wasn’t all at the same time), you should be hearing from me by the end of the year to see how you’d like your name to read on the banner that we will be putting up.

Haven’t donated? There’s still time! You can drop a check or cash off with the office (checks payable to Grout PTA), or you can go to to make a donation online. All donations to Grout PTA are tax deductible, whether they are for the playground or general fund.

With 2017 coming to a close, I would like to take a moment to say a big THANK YOU to all of you that are supporting our students, teachers and community. Everything you do to make our school great is much appreciated!

Take care,

Sue Ledgerwood
